Terms of Service

Welcome to Kidzo. These terms are the agreement between you and Kidzo ("we", "us") for the Kidzo mobile app and the kidzo.ca website (together, the "Services"). By creating an account or using the Services, you agree to them. They're written to be read — please actually read them, especially section 4.
The short version
- Kidzo is a coordination tool. It helps parents who already trust each other organize driving, playdates and classes. Kidzo never moves kids — parents you trust do.
- You choose who's around your child. Circles are invite-only and built by you. We don't screen anyone, so your judgment is the safety system — same as it's always been.
- No money moves through Kidzo. Coordination between families is free, forever. Classes are paid directly to the people who run them.
1. What Kidzo is
Kidzo is where Ottawa parents organize the driving, playdates and classes their kids already have. The app has three parts:
- Discover — a browsable catalog of local kids' activities with schedules, ages and prices.
- Carpool — invite-only circles where each family picks the weekly day they cover, without tallies or scorekeeping.
- Playdates & neighbour classes — playdate invitations that are free to decline, plus a neighbourhood notice board where locals can list classes they teach.
2. What Kidzo is not
Not a transport company. Kidzo never moves kids, employs no one who does, and offers no one to do it. Every adult in your circles is someone a parent invited.
Not a marketplace. There are no fares, no fees between families, and no way to move money through the app. Money only ever exists between you and the people who run the classes.
Not a surveillance app. There's no live map following your child. Status updates come from a parent's own tap and are shared with your circle only.
Because of this, Kidzo is not a party to any arrangement between parents, or between you and any class or program provider.
3. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 18 and the parent or legal guardian of any child whose details you add. You agree to give accurate information, keep your sign-in credentials to yourself, and tell us at hello@kidzo.ca if you think someone else has used your account. Kidzo is currently in private beta — access may be by invitation, and we may add, change or remove features as the product grows.
4. Your decisions are yours — please read this one
Kidzo shows you plans, schedules and the families you've connected with. What it can never do is know the people. So:
- You decide which parents join your circles, who picks up your child, and whose home your child visits. We don't run background checks, verify identities, or supervise anyone — trust in Kidzo comes from you inviting people you already know.
- Any parent behind the wheel is responsible for meeting their own legal duties: being licensed and insured, using the booster or car seat the child needs under Ontario law, and driving like the precious cargo is theirs — because on their day, it is.
- Show up for your circle: be where the plan says, when it says, and communicate early when life happens. The app removes the group-chat chaos; it can't remove the responsibility.
5. Circles, playdates and messages
Content you post — messages, plans, kid details, notice-board listings — is yours, and you're responsible for it. You give us the limited licence needed to store it and show it to the people you shared it with, and nothing more. Playdate declines are always free and visible only to the organizer; a host's home address is revealed only to families who said yes. Be the neighbour you'd want next door: no harassment, no impersonation, nothing unlawful.
6. The activity catalog
Discover's catalog is assembled from public sources and from program providers. Schedules, prices and availability belong to the providers and can change without notice — confirm details with the provider before you register, and register and pay with them directly. Listing a program in Kidzo is not an endorsement of it.
7. The neighbour class board
The notice board is honest by design: Kidzo hasn't checked these listings. When a parent two streets over lists piano lessons, treat it like a flyer on a community board — talk to them like a neighbour, ask your own questions, and any payment stays between you two. We may remove listings that break these terms, but we don't review, verify or guarantee any of them.
8. Free for parents
Coordination between families is free — forever. If we ever introduce paid features for program providers or schools, that won't change what parents pay each other through Kidzo: nothing, because there's no way to pay anyone through Kidzo at all.
9. Acceptable use
Don't misuse the Services. In particular, you agree not to:
- use Kidzo to offer or arrange driving of children for money — that's a commercial service Kidzo does not support and was built to never become;
- add details about a child who isn't yours to add, or misrepresent who you are;
- probe, scrape, overload or interfere with the Services or other people's data;
- use the catalog or the notice board to spam families.
10. Our stuff
The app, the site, and their design, text and code are ours and protected by intellectual-property laws. The activity information itself belongs to its sources; your content stays yours (section 5).
11. Beta software, no warranties
Kidzo is young software provided "as is" and "as available". We work hard to keep it correct and running, but we can't promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and a plan in an app is never a substitute for confirming with a human when it really matters.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Kidzo is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for the acts or omissions of other users — including anything that happens during driving, playdates, classes or other arrangements that parents make with each other or with providers. Where liability can't be excluded, it's limited to the amount you paid us for the Services in the past year (which, for parents, is zero). Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
13. Ending things
You can stop using Kidzo at any time, and Account → Delete my account in the app removes your account and what you added, including any linked Echo reminders. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms — especially section 9 — and will tell you why unless the law prevents it.
14. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we'll update the date at the top; for meaningful changes we'll also tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. Using the Services after that means you accept the new terms.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes belong to the courts of Ontario — though we'd much rather you email us first.
